I loved the twist that Spike was now a ghost. It’s such an inventive way to take his ever-tortured journey through life.

His arrival reminds me of Faith’s various appearances on the show. Suddenly a fully realised and complex character is dominating the stage and we can push the monster of the week aside for a meatier story. Excellent.

I loved the reveal that Spike is now a ghost. There probably wasn’t a single viewer who didn’t know that he was moving to Angel when he sacrificed himself as we see in the nice Buffy flashback that started this episode. But I don’t think anyone was expecting that he would be a ghostly presence so I liked that the writers came up with something to surprise us about Spike’s return. Like Conviction I was more interested in the stories involving Spike and the rest of the team as opposed to the Wolfram & Hart client that Angel needed to stop. I loved that Angel neglected to inform the gang that Spike got his soul back and helped save the world. I didn’t mind the mention of what Buffy has done since Sunnydale was destroyed and I’m glad the writers came up with a idea of tying Spike to Wolfram & Hart so he couldn’t go after her. It might’ve been convenient but it shows they know the viewers wouldn’t expect him to stick around and hang out with Angel and the gang. Loved the back and forth between Angel and Spike all episode. Spike turning to Fred at episode’s end was a nice touch.
